The Client: Skanska.

The Brief: Barts and the Royal London hospitals are undergoing the largest hospital redevelopment in the UK. Our brief was to create a space outside the Women and Children´s Entrance that would not only enhance the area, but also give a friendly and restful feel to an environment that can often be stressful for patients and family.

Concept Design: The main feature of the design is the curved blue glass walk lit by LEDs to give a feeling of moving water. It can be explored by children and viewed from the surrounding buildings. The natural rock placed within the planting is a symbol of strength, while functioning as a water feature with sounds of rippling water. The design is an adaptation of our Gold Medal winning design at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
